Design, Fabrication, and Operation of a 10 L Biodiesel Production Unit Powered by Conventional and Solar Energy Systems

Biodiesel is regarded as a low-carbon substitute for petroleum-based fuels. This research study aimed to investigate 10 L batch-scale biodiesel production system from waste cooking oil (WCO) powered energy by solar and conventional electricity. The unit’s design considers the mass balance of system’s constituent parts. methoxide mixing chamber volume was calculated 2.5 with an electric agitator power requirement 25 W. In comparison, occupied reactants in stirred reactor determined be 14.5 250 W motor agitator. WCO produced two-step process, i.e., esterification followed transesterification reaction using electricity power, yielding 92% 90% volume, respectively. characteristics both systems comparable ASTM D6751. total amount required 2.006 kWh 1.0 per L, biodiesel’s performance 64.02% 62.10%, whereas productivity 0.0242 kg/MJ 0.0235 systems, Therefore, can employed massive reduction traditional requirements, thus reducing production’s carbon footprint.
